Thursday Sept 02 2010 Sherry has a bad cold! Yesterday afternoon she came outside and said "I'm getting a cold." "Sorry but it sounds like you already HAVE a cold." There hadn't been any indication earlier. Nothing like a summer cold to make you feel wonderful. I have this old 2 gal. garden sprayer that I've modified with a valve stem. I can pump it up to about 40# pressure and spray one side of the building without walking much and I spray about 1/2 the crawl space from an access opening. Great idea, right? Yep! Till it gets gummed up the bug spray residue. That |
stuff is nasty! Oh I've done it before but it's been a long time. Usually once in a while I half fill it with water and add a little detergent, pump it up set it to continuous spray. Flush it all out and it's good to go. Yesterday I was spraying along just fine and it stopped. Just like that stopped. Finally I had taken it apart ALL the way and I found the glob of whatever it is. I can tell you it looks, acts and feels like old fashioned rubber cement. So the sum jest of all this is "don't do that." Clean out the equipment when it's due. I KNEW THAT!

Wednesday Sept 01 2010 Another small "finishing up" project accomplished yesterday- the toe kicks are installed/ Not as professional as I'd have liked but I tend to expand the project as it goes. It's OK as is though. Sorting nuts, bolts, screws and fasteners is not an exciting way to invest the afternoon. With those items cost starting at .07 each it doesn't take long to realize that in each of those plastic quart jugs is probably $10-$15 I did it again. I intended to throw them away as it's often more frustrating to search for what you need than just pony up the price. That's all make more challenging by the hardware store being 1/2 mile away. |
Then I have to consider the "good natured" harassment I get from my often used statement "I'm going to the hardware store." That tends to bring on all kinds of comments from Sherry and if Dawn's here even more. They sure enjoy that for some reason. Well anyway again things are in some order but there's still about 4' of shelf space with nails of various sizes, types and intended uses awaiting. Everything from short masonry nails to gutter spikes plus wire staples and of at least 3 different sizes and who knows what else. All falls under the description of "good stuff" IF you happen to need one of them.

Tuesday Aug 31 2010 I guess I just couldn't stand it. A shop a with clean floor. I just had to make some saw dust. After 17 years we have toe-kick/mopboards under the kitchen cabinets with I might add rubber mopboard trim. They aren't attached to the cabinets yet but that's on the agenda. Normally they're permanently attached to the cabinets but in our case that may not be the |
best solution. They look pretty good for "cub work" now stick
them there in a removable manner that doesn't show.
Nice this morning- 77 degrees. doors open and a nice breeze blowing through. Won't be long now and everyone will be saying "this is why we live here." Not so much for me but then. . . |

Monday Aug 30 2010 From all indications things are well at "old #5" this morning. By that I mean "as far as I know." We had a nice weekend with a couple of unusual activities as compared to our usual We had a social occasion to attend Sat. night and did so and we watched a movie in the bar Sun. night. I know that isn't a high level of activity for a lot of folks but it's a great change for us. Sometimes I miss the old days of a "Friday Night Happy Hour" every Friday evening. This time of the |
year there was usually a lull in those events. Oh Well- things and times change I guess- No I don't guess They Do Change. I'm happy to report that I have the shop and associated area in good enough condition that I don't even mind spending a little time there in the effort to get it the way it ought to be. The reorganization isn't started but it's straight enough & clean enough to begin the process. Lots of "good stuff" is making a one way trip to he dumpster- Oh the waste of it (chuckle). |
